THIS WEEK'S IMAGE:     ROM Director and CEO William Thorsell guides the Ukraine's First Lady, Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko, through the ROM's recently opened Mysteries of Ancient Ukraine: The Remarkable Trypilian Culture exhibition . The mystery of this compelling and sophisticated culture, known for creating the largest settlements anywhere in the world at the time, only to inexplicably disappear, is illuminated through some 300 artifacts, many never before seen in North America.  On until March 22, 2009  in the  ROM's 3rd floor Centre Block
LOOKING AHEAD:     Photorama: Gallery TPW's Annual Sale of Contemporary Photo-based Art   Now in it's 22nd year it is recognized as one of the premiere art sales of the holiday season. Photorama 2008 offers a once-a-year opportunity to purchase the best in boundary-pushing, contemporary photo-based art at affordable prices. With most works priced below $600, PHOTORAMA makes it easy to expand your art collection, or just let yourself go for that impulse buy.  Dec. 2 - Dec. 6 noon - 5 PM    Gallery TPW, 55 Ossington Ave.

It's A Wonderful Life     Adapted by Philip Grecian, based on the iconic film by Frank Capra, this holiday perennial is re-imagined as a staged radio play in this Canstage production. The heartwarming and timeless story chronicles the life of George Bailey, an ambitious and restless young man whose loyalty, empathy and generosity tie him to his father's savings-and-loan business, preventing him from living his dream and traveling the world. Due to various hardships, mishaps and fateful trials over the years – including an economic downturn and the threat of financial ruin - he begins to think himself more valuable dead than alive. He is preparing to jump off a bridge when his guardian angel Clarence, hoping to earn his wings, steps in to show him the value of his life.    Nov. 24 - Dec. 20    Bluma Appel Theatre, St. Lawrence Centre, 27 Front St. E.  Tickets:  416 368.3110 or online by clicking here

Dickens Of a Christmas    Based on Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, the show was commissioned in 2005 to provide the CCOC with an opera worthy of an annual holiday presentation. Toronto Dance Theatre's Dis/(ol/ver)   Christopher House's new creation foregrounds the ways in which we come together and drift apart. Moments of joy, dissolving lovers, unexpected ambushes and collapsing waves play across the stage in this provocative, intelligent work.    Photo: Douglas Brown
