Dear Fellow BloomersAs
those of you who were fortunate enough to be there know, the Bloomsday
Centenary celebrations in Toronto last year were a spectacular success.
We had packed audiences for Bloom’s
Dublin – Bloomusalem at Harbourfront; Bloom on the Beaches; the Bloomsday
Brunch, and, the coup de grace, the Bloomsday Gala at the St Lawrence Hall. It was a memorable
commemoration and we thank everyone who helped in any way to make it the
success it was. This
year for the first time, I will be in Dublin for Bloomsday, as part of a
Classical Pursuits Literary Tour organized by Ann Kirkland. We are
planning to be in the Sandycove Martello Tower on the morning of June 16
gazing out at the “snotgreen sea. The scrotumtightening sea” and
will celebrate Bloomsday 2005 with members of the Glasthule/Sandycove
Festival, the festival with which we are twinned. Fortuitously,
this would seem to be a good year to celebrate Bloomsday in Dublin as
our usual Toronto Bloom
on the Beaches venues are under reconstruction and, therefore,
inaccessible. However,
if you would like to acknowledge the day and raise a toast, A
Beer for Bloom, you are most welcome to join fellow Bloomers in Dora
Keogh's Pub on the Danforth at Broadview on
Thurs. June 16, 2005 from 5.00pm - 9.00pm. It
will be a very informal gathering. People are free to read from their
favourite Ulysses section, sing a song, or do a recitation! Let
us ReJoyce! on June 16, from whichever side of the pond we find
ourselves. Yours
in the affirmative, Mary
