Casa de las Americas has joined with the Eleggua
Project to develop education and research programs in Popular Dance, Caribbean Culture,
Heritage Studies, the Fine Arts and Afro-American Religions.
As Head of International Programs and Cooperation for Casa de las Americas (a position
which I've assumed since my last contribution to the Eleggua Newsletter), I see this
initiative as part of my efforts to revitalize Casa's programs and to bring them
more into line with contemporary study.
Casa has been offering programs in Latin American and Caribbean culture for more
than three decades, and it continues to provide a venue for research by writers,
artists, musicians, dramatists and others, through exchanges among institutions and
individuals. The Casa de Las Americas Magazine is one of the foremost Spanish publications
of arts and letters and its awards programs in Literature, Musicology, Engraving,
and Photography are of international importance.
Through this joint effort, Casa will be able to contribute its extensive network
of contacts throughout Cuba and its 30-year record of successful programming to the
strength of the current Eleggua Programs. Together, we hope to offer more delegations
greater access to the individuals and institutions that make Cuba such a rich nation
for collaborative research.
