COMMENTS FROM OUR Sports in Cuba  PARTICIPANTS

What John Davidson, Women's Basketball Coach, Dawson College, Westmount QC has to say about their January 2002 trip to Cuba:

What they enjoyed most about their Cuba experience:

Meeting the Cuban people. going to places where tourists can not normally go. Great competition. Nancy (their guide) was excellent!

Overall opinion:

Excellent! The fact that some mornings there was no...hot water in some of the cabins was a bonus. I wanted the girls to experience a situation where not everything is how it is at home.

Impression of Cuban athletes:

Excellent athletes. Great competitors. Nice people.

What Don Ross, Volleyball Coach, Jasper High School, Jasper Alberta has to say aobut their March 2002 trip to Cuba:

What they enjoyed most about their Cuba experience:

Everyone had a different highlight from the trip. Personally my highlights were the interchange between Cuban and Canadian players, the warmth of the people we met, the "flavour" of Havana and being away from Varadero for the last week. A very special memory.

Villa Bacuranao was loads of fun what with the entertainment and dance instructors...La Ermanita - excellent, Maria Gorda - same.

What part(s) of the itinerary would you change/delete:

Absolutely nothing - as the 2 weeks allowed us to see something besides Havana. It would have been interesting to have some talk, before going down, about the process of playing a sport in Cuba and a what age they're selected.

Overall opinion:

Very professionally run, great drivers, bus, guide and our itinerary was exceptional. Both kids and parents thoroughly enjoyed their 2 weeks. Don't know how it could have been better.

Impression of Cuban athletes:

Only one word describes them "awesome". The 16- 18 year olds we practiced and played with would do very well against any AA top teams. Well above our caliber but very accommodating as we mixed teams for games and practice.
