For the team of Wayne Doherty from The Boulevard Club in Toronto, the 1997-1998 curling season opened with a bang. On August 16, 1997 at the summer bonspiel in Little Current, Ontario, Canada on Manitoulin Island team Doherty scored an 8-ender. After the opposing skip's last shot, team Doherty had 7 rocks scoring but faced a pesky yellow rock lying second shot on the back 4-foot and well guarded by a yellow rock in front of the house. For the final shot, team Doherty made a beautiful angle raise take-out to remove the yellow rock and place the 8th blue stone into scoring position.
