Our Eight Ender happened in the Friday mixed league at the Huntington Hills Curling Club in Calgary on November 8, 2002. After about 15 years of “retirement” from curling, Gord and Arlene decided to curl again and Marlene and I teamed up with them in a Friday night mixed league. Little did we know what was in store for us!!

It was the 6th end, the score was 7-2 in our favour with last rock. We managed to be laying 4 with 3 rocks to come when we really started to think about the monster end. Arlene made a good draw to lay 5 and their skip was heavy with his first rock and slid through. Being unsure whether our rock was shot over the opposition yellow at the top of the eight foot, I tried to wick our rock (7th shot at the time) about an inch and roll in. Just missed but the shooter ended up in the four foot to lay 6. Their skip tried a raise take out but was off line and we still had our chance for eight. I tried the wick again with last rock and just nudged it enough to move it slightly with the shooter going into the 4 foot. It was quite suspense filled as we had to measure the 2 rocks in the top eight. We were shot by a very close measurement.

This was the first 8 ender for Arlene, Gord and Marlene. It was the 3rd eight ender for Wayne. Still waiting for the first hole in one though!! It's been an all around good year for Gord as he got his first hole in one earlier this year as well.   I guess it pays to come out of retirement.
