Chingy music and memorabilia: A rapper from St. Louis, Missouri,
Chingy began recording at the age of eight. After establishing himself
in St. Louis, he was signed by Ludacris and manager Chaka Zula to the
Disturbing the Peace label, and in 2002, he went on tour with
Nelly. This paid off well as he learned the moves and ways of the tour
and promotion. His early influences were Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye
and the Temptations. Later he was influenced by Snoop Dogg, LL Cool J,
DJ Quick, and Nelly. He built a following in St. Louis, and the year
following the tour, he released his debut single, Right Thurr.
The 2003 single became a summer hit, playing on the air waves and in
clubs. It reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. Late that
same year, his debut album, Jackpot, was released, emphasizing
fun and frolic with beautiful women.
