Born in Bombay, Aruna Narayan Kalle is the daughter of the renowned sarangi maestro, Pandit Ram Narayan.Among his many students, Aruna occupies a special place since she has thouroughly imbibed her father's playing technique and has a finely developed musical temperament. Her playing is marked for its grace and nuance. Although she began her music training at the rather late age of eighteen, she made fast progress specialising in solo sarangi playing and has since demonstrated her artistry performing in India, Australia, Europe, USA and Canada. Apart from the disticnction of being one of only a handful of solo sarangi players, Aruna is the only woman performer of this beautiful and haunting instrument. Currently she has a CD out from Nimbus and two more pending release from Indian recording companies.
