Marc and Rudy brave the elements at Ronny's cottage. Photo by Eric Parker. Marc started sitar lessons at age 20 in Malaysia. He went home to California with one sitar and one tabla (no bayan) which stayed in the closet for some time. Then Michael, Marc's brother, discovered the tabla, realized that it needed a bayan, and the two of them began to practice together. They studied at the Center for World Music in Berkeley for two wonderful summers--Marc with Nikhil Banerjee, Michael with Gyan Ghosh and Anindo Chatterjee. There Marc met Ron Weinberger and they fell in love. Marc and Michael went off to India in 1975 for eight months of intensive study, then came home and practised for about 20 years. Marc still brings out the sitar, though only occasionally, and Michael continues to play concerts in California with Zachir Hussein's percussion band and with instrumentalists such as Steve Oda. Marc is also a professor of developmental psychology at the University of Toronto, which sometimes interferes with his life as a musician.
