Like Eric, I also participated in the Hair of the Dog Run. Here are the top 10 reasons to consider this event next year:
1) Orange juice and peach schnapps at the halfway point.
2) Low entry fee ($15). No T-shirt, but don't you already have more than you know what to do with?
3) Hot food and a warm clubhouse to enjoy it in afterwards.
4) Civilized start time. (Noon).
5) Lots of draw prizes. If your name is picked, you get to choose your prize from whatever is left on the prize table.
6) Variety of divisions, including the intriguing "Open Hangover" category. Also, classes for power walkers, half-milers and parents with strollers. (Walkers start half an hour earlier.)
7) No porta potties. Just good ol' indoor plumbing.
8) When have you run a 9K race before? If it's your first time, you're guaranteed a personal best. Besides, the course is short.
9) You can enjoy an adult beverage with your post-race chow.
10) No finish line clock. No posting of results. No pressure.
What a great way to kick off the year.
