My short-term goal is:
Currently I am gearing up for another fall duathlon (5-20-3) and looking for a cooler half marathon that I might do. Unfortunately the local half is in early September and I nearly melted my brain running it last year. I will also be running a few shorter/fun races in November and December. In January I will start training for the Around the Bay 30K in March. After running that race I will have time to recover, get some speedwork in and then hopefully be ready to rock in May at the conference. (Note: After running the Around the Bay 30K this year I had similar hopes but I was sidelined with a serious cold/bronchitis in mid-late April that derailed my spring half marathon plans.)My goal for the half is:
To run as close to 2 hours as possible. I think I can make significant improvements on my current half marathon PR.My goal for after the half is:
To run more duathlons and to work on my 10K PR. (There is a great local 10K on July 1st that I have my eye on.) I would also like to do my first triathlon next year and possibly aim for a half Ironman race.Cross-training/other sports
I typically bike two times a week (about 3 hours total). Last winter I also swam twice a week for about 3.5 months. I will likely try that again. (Note: A total body skin rash in Feb forced me from the pool. Swimming will likely be dropped if the rash returns.) I also take at least one complete rest day each week.Anything you'd like to add so that readers can understand you better?
I am married to Andre (9 years in September) and we have no kids. We both work in high tech, myself as a technical writer and Andre as a programmer. I began running to lose weight. As you can see from my data I'm still a reasonably sized person and my BMI still lists me as overweight. However I am 75 pounds lighter than when I started and I am very proud of that. I am also back to my highschool weight which still seems amazing to me.In June 2000 I began working with a coach. Jane Armstrong (my coach) is an established duathlete and road racer and has been a HUGE help and inspiration to me. It is Jane who makes my training schedules for me. Jane and I meet once every two weeks and discuss how things are going and put together the next block of training. Then all I have to do is follow the plan. This is of course harder than it sounds.
