Dec 19/01 — Jacquie: The good, bad and ugly

Running in 2001, 9 months in review

THE GOOD...
* Getting out there that first time
* Realizing that I can do it
* Running with people that understand the addiction
* The first time I ever felt a runner's high, it was like I was floating and could run forever
* Getting out after a dry spell and realizing that my feet haven't forgotten
* Running with the Penguins
* Eating with the Penguins
* Playing with the Penguins
* The tons of advice and support I get from the Penguins
* Meeting out-of-town Penguins
* Anything Penguiny
* Losing weight
* Setting new goals
* Road trips
* So far -- I've been injury free!

THE BAD...
* Who said running was a cheap sport? Running shoes, DriFit, season's change
* What is with the often uncooperative weather? Mind you, accomplishing a run in the rain is pretty awesome...
* Showing up for a group run and it's... just me
* Is there a consensus yet on how long it takes to get back into a routine, once you've lost it?
* The first 5K of a long run
* The first 10 minutes of a short run
* Having to change my running goals/plans due to circumstance
* Strange pains that crop up in the middle of a run that make me think "Oh God, what is this, will it go away, will I be able to finish?" (they usually go away)

THE UGLY...
* Eric. Need I say more?
* Chafing in unspeakable places
* The Bite Me Zone, where you risk losing your friends if you say what you are thinking
* Longboat - That race traumatized me
* Wearing the wrong shorts and that ripped in the middle of a 10K run (I was at the Running Room 1st thing the next day)

As you can see, THE GOOD far outnumbers everything else -- so, sign me up for 2002!
