Feb 18-24th was my easy week and I took advantage of that to rest quite a bit. Although I was champing at the bit while I was running, when I was not it was great to have the spare time and energy for other things in life - like working towards my next big
deadline at work. My easy week also helped reduce the tense/achy feeling that had spread through my whole body. On Feb 24th I co-hosted a baby shower and that was hard work. However, it was also very fun. I even napped mid-afternoon to recover and then got to watch the men's Canada-USA hockey game from the Olympics. It was a great day.Feb 25th I started back into my training with vigor. I had a great brick workout and was feeeling strong. I did not enjoy my hill workout on Feb 28th. I have been noticing that my hills are not getting any faster and that has begun to worry me. Definitely something to ask my coach about.
My long run Saturday was heavenly. Conditions were ideal for a long winter run. The sun was shining, the temps were reasonable (-11C/12F with windchill) and I had a great time. These great conditions and my stubbornness (I wanted to run to a particular
landmark) coaxed me to run 6 minutes longer than I was supposed to. I was running an out and back course and when I turned around and hit the wind I began to regret my decision. However, I kept going and managed to do pretty even splits which was great. My last workout was my second brick workout of the week. I felt terribly tired before I even started. Doing those tempo segments was so hard. When I got home I did not want to get on the bike. However, I talked myself into it and did 30 minutes, the minimum bike workout requested by my coach. It was a real disappointment after the strong brick workout I had done Feb 25th.
So... The past two weeks of training had a few ups and downs. Overall things are going well and I probably just need to keep plugging along. My big work deadline is nearly here and my only injury right now is some pesky blisters on my baby toe (left foot only). Life is good.
