Nov 14/01 — Jacquie: Back in the groove
Getting Back in the Groove... I've been moaning and groaning for many weeks about my running routine (or lack thereof). It seems as though, and I hesitate to say this aloud, my running has come back to me.
A wonderful penguin e-mailed me a list of running groups in my area and I joined them for a run. Boy, were they ever fast! I was panting and dragging myself well behind the slowest of the bunch. They took turns staying with me and I was grateful for this because on top of putting everything I had in just trying to keep
up, I had no idea where we were. But I finished and felt GREAT! I was worried about running with them regularly, wondering if my pride could take such a bruising on a regular basis and how they would feel about having a slowpoke with them. I consulted a dear
Penguin whose words of encouragement helped me to decide to give them another try. Which I plan to do.I ran that following Sunday, the weather was excellent and I headed to the track of a nearby high school and did 3 miles, it was a tough 3 miles though, my legs were still a bit sore from that unplanned "speed work" on Thursday. I made it to the treadmill 2X that week and out for an awesome run with Kelly, Kathryn and
Maureen on Saturday morning. Sunday, I made it out with Dimetre to Sunnybrook Park. And it's Monday today and I think I may have overdone it a bit with the big hills 2 days in a row. Got to be careful to heed rule #1 - Run smart to avoid injuries. This seemed to be all I needed to get me motivated to create a new
running routine for myself. So, I have patched together a new routine which should be something like the following...Sundays - Sunnybrook
Mondays – running with Tracy (fellow penguin re-surfaces!)
Tuesdays - off
Wednesdays - off
Thursdays – Speed work with the Rouge River Roadrunners
And once every other week with Kathryn & KellyNext report should include some training goals and progress... Wish me luck!
