Writes Una: I danced with the road marshals and chatted up the cops.  Discovered the joys of Vaseline (note to runners out there.... the goo on the stick is NOT honey, it's VASELINE.  I can't believe people were eating it!!!!  LOL)

Writes Lucie: I hear "go lucie go".. it was Caroline, one attorney I work with whose boyfriend, Jean-Pierre did the half too. So she "raced" a few metres with me..just saying GO LUCIE GO... and I sprinted like a mad woman across the finish line.

Writes Glenn: The next runner was Bib #1, the 2002 winner Rodgers Rop of Kenya. Surprising all of us, he grabbed the cup from my hand. We were ALL in awe.

Oct 02: Canadian International Marathon and Half-Marathon

First, we had visitors from Buffalo and England. Second, there were at least four Penguins who showed up that didn't tell us they were running. Third, the weather changed from sunny, crisp and cool to overcast, windy and dreary. And, finally, we missed our English Penguin at the marathon finish line!

John and Karen Bingham visited the Great White North for the first Penguin Flight School outside of the United States. For three days at Brock University, we covered the essentials of effort-based training. The highlight of the weekend was a 5K time trial organized by the St. Catharines Road Runners and Walkers.

After the time trial on Saturday, we joined the St. Catharines Road Runners and Walkers for lunch. We spent Sunday reviewing the lessons of the weekend and having a goodbye lunch in the cafeteria.

The Vermont City Marathon is held on Memorial Day weekend. In May 2000, this race was the highlight of the annual Penguin World Conference. Instead of running the full marathon, the Toronto Penguins joined our fellow fowl on relay teams.
