Prolinear PalmBook:

Following the discussions in the Newsgroups it is apparent that a lot of the people excited about the new Windows CE computers have ended up disappointed because these new products don't run traditional MS-DOS and Windows software. To an extent there have been answers for these people. Many of them would be better off looking at some of the more "traditional" handheld computer products. The most obvious are the Hewlett-Packard (HP) Omnibooks (currently in the 800 series with Pentium processors), the HP LX series products and the Prolinear PalmBook. All these products run MS-DOS, and the Omnibooks run Windows. Unfortunately, only the HP "LX" series products are down in the price range of the Windows CE products. But that's why the Windows CE system was developed -- to fit into compact, cheaply produced products.

A couple of years ago there was a small company importing the same computer as the Prolinear in Canada. I think it was called "Etc." I tried to find their phone number and failed. If anybody knows about this company, or any other importing this computer, let me know and I'll post the information.

I have mentioned the Hewlett-Packard Omnibook series "subnotebook" computers recently. The following is a direct link to H-P's related Web pages:
