Canon PowerShot 350 Pocket Sized Digital Camera

June 23, 1997, Canada News Wire reports that Canon Canada Inc. has announced the PowerShot 350 pocket size digital camera for Windows and Mac users for $999.00 (CDN). Including a 1.8" LCD screen the PowerShot 350 measures 95 * 89 * 51 mm and weighs less than 312 g. 640 * 480 images are stored on Compact Flash memory cards.

Canon Canada Inc. also announced the PowerShot 600 with 832 * 608 by 24 bit resolution at $1,399.00 (Cdn).

Hitachi Develops MPEG Movie Camera

Feb. 21, 1997, Newsbytes reports that Hitachi Home Electronics (America) has announced the first direct to MPEG movie camera. Providing images with 352 * 240 pixel resolution it will cost about $2,500 US, including a 260MB PC card.

Matsushita Introduces Small Digital Camera

Feb. 14, 1997, Newsbytes reports that Matsushita the KXL-600A-N camera which measures 134 * 62 * 21mm and weighs 140 grams, but does not have a built in display. It takes pictures with resolution up to 640 * 480 and will be available in Japan, March 20 for about $400 (US). NEC has also recently entered this field with what they claim to be the smallest digital camera with an LCD display.

Digital Photography:

The first article I wrote on this topic was a review of the Apple QuickTake 100 published in "Computing Now!" As far as I know, that article isn't available online. Since I still own the Copyright for that article, I may post it eventually.
