"The Handheld Systems Journal" was formerly "PDA Developers"
magazine. It's published by Creative Digital Publishing Inc., who
also sell commercial development tools, run seminars and publish books.
This is a developers resource magazine, not intended for general public
interest. The content includes many programming examples. However,
there are product reviews that are understandable by lay people and I
think some of the technical material is probably also with the grasp
of the general public. The real barrier is the high price. The last
issue I bought was $13.95 US or $14.95 Can. So far I've only bought
that one issue. Their Website holds demos of their commercial software.

When Rich Malloy took over Mobile Office, he completely changed the direction
of the magazine. Formerly a magazines known for nice looking page layout
but little content, Rich packed the magazine with the latest information
and the depth of coverage in the tradition of Byte Magazine, where he
had already built a reputation for solid technical writing. I'm proud to
say that I've had articles published in Mobile Office since the changes. The
most recent change has been a change of the magzine's name and a new
publisher. Lately, I found their website. I haven't had time
to look over their Website yet, so I don't know if my article are there or
not, but it should turn out to be one of the sites worth watching on a regular
basis.

When I first saw Pen Computing Magazine I was wary. The title
and even some of the early material seemed to suggest that the
Pen interface was the "right" way for computers to work. I've
never believed that. I've always felt that there were many interface
methods and that at any given time one might be better, but there
was no reason to suggest that any one method was universally better.
In time, I found that Pen Computing tended to agree with my beliefs.
It is currently one of the best magazines in the field of business
and industrial computing.

Toronto Computes! has just posted my review of the Newton MP-130
and Zaurus ZR-5700/5800. With all the talk about the new eMate300
and MP-2000, this may seem a bit late, but the new Newtons won't
be available till around the end of March, and even when they
arrive, the prices seem to leave room for the MP-130 to be around
for a while, so the reviews are still current. Furthermore, the
new version 2.1 software is likely to be similar to the 2.0
software reviewed in the MP-120's and MP-130's.
