A few pieces of coal or rocks
Shallow bowl
6 tbsp salt
6 tbsp bluing
6 tbsp water
1 tbsp ammonia
Food coloring

Place coal or rocks in bottom of the shallow bowl. Combine salt, bluing, water, and ammonia in a small bowl and mix well. Pour mixture over rocks. Add a few drops of different food coloring over the mixture. Let stand a few hours. Crystals will begin to form. They will grow to be colorful and interesting for several days.
