Divination
Divination is the art of communicating with what some refer to as the Collective Unconscious to gain information and insight in the past, present and future. There many different methods, tools and symbols that can be used. It is a skill and requires practice, patience and intuition. One thing I wish to include about divination has to do with those of the future. When I do readings for others, if any possibly disturbing future out comes were revealed, some misinterpreted it as THE outcome. This is not necessarily so. One must understand that these are possible outcomes.
The future is not written in stone. For example, if a reading suggests that you may soon lose your current job, it is up to you to try and take what ever actions you feel necessary to try and prevent this from happening. If you sit idly by certain of the fact that this will take place, then there is a good possibility that it will. Your thoughts are powerful tools which shape your future. If you think that your life will be horrible and see the worst in every situation, your setting yourself up for just that. If on the other hand you direct your thoughts to see the positive aspects of life, your thoughts will intern manifest positive energy and attract that which is positive to you.
Tarot Cards
- Are probably the most popular form of divination. The average deck consists
of 78 cards which are divided into the major arcana (22 cards) and the
minor arcana (56 cards). There are numerous different spreads that can
be used which can range typically from the 3 card spread to others that
can employ a great many cards.
As you probably know there are several different decks to choose from.
This is a very personal decision and you ultimately must choose a deck
or decks that you are drawn to. At times it can be difficult as the decks
are sealed and you have no way of seeing what all the cards look like.
I suggest that you look at the various decks for a while, some may instantly
catch your attention, ask the store owner to take out the various decks
that appeal to you. You can begin the 'process of elimination', setting
aside the ones you are most attracted to until you are left with the deck
that you like the most. If you are beginner and this is your first deck,
I recommend buying a deck that has a companion book specifically for that
deck.
Once you have your cards, get aquatinted with them. Look at each card carefully,
noting the different symbolism's and meanings on each card and study the
meaning of the card in the book. Tarot cards take time to understand. There
are a lot of cards and along with understanding what each card means, you
must also learn how each one relates to the others in spreads.
Medicine Cards - Are a Native American form of divination using 44 cards depicting different animals. These cards are radically different from the tarot. The purposes of there divination's are to guide you on what is termed " Your life walk" . In them you find your 9 totem animals which represent the medicine you are carrying on your current life walk. They take you on a journey of self discovery to lead you to a better understanding of yourself and how to recognize, develop and make use of the unique medicine that you posses. If you are interested in purchasing medicine cards, I recommend the Sams & Carson Medicine Cards from Bear & Company Publishing.
Star + Gate - Although I've never seen these mentioned, I felt that they deserve to be included here (seeing as how I have them). This system has been around for quite some time, it's been on the market since 1984. Star + Gate is a system to help focus, clarify, and resolve the questions and decisions of today. It does this by tapping into the individual's intuitive insight. It creates a symbolic mirror that can be used on any topic, providing insights, new perspectives, and a positive course of action. It consists of 96 two sided symbolic cards, a sky spread and a circle pattern chart, along with a Keys to the Kingdom companion handbook to fully explain how to use this system. They were created by Richard H. Geer and distributed by Vintage Books a division of Random House Inc. I give them a big thumbs up!
