Female Menstrual Puberty Rite

This rite is to be done soon after a girl (G) experiences her first menstrual cycle, and before she has a second one. All you need are the regular tools you use for casting a magick circle, a red candle with the girls name carved on it, and a calendar that has the moon phases on it. If you are a crafty person, you may want to make the calendar by hand, if not, try to find a special looking calendar that the girl will enjoy having as a special keep sake. If you are older and never had this rite performed, and feel deep down that your menstrual cycle is dirty or something shameful and not to be talked about, I suggest you perform this rite on yourself. If you can not find other people to participate, design the ritual so it can be performed solitary, by you alone. It should make you feel special about having your moon cycle, and take away any feelings of shame you may have had passed down to you long ago. It is something you should feel proud and empowered by.

Place the candle and the calendar on the altar.

The G. should be wearing special clothing, or a robe for the ritual. 3 woman from the girls family (including the Mother), or 3 close adult female friends, are needed to take the place of the part of the Priestess (P), Mother (M) and Crone (C). If you can't find that many people, just have the people attending take on an additional role. This ritual is designed for Wiccans in a coven, but can easily be tailored to fit whatever path you follow, and done by a few solitary Witches, or one solitary Witch with 1 or 2 very open minded friends.

Cast your circle with only the P inside it standing in it, away from the altar. After it's cast, the  P. opens it for a moment to allow the Mother to take her daughter by the hand and lead her to the altar followed by the Crone. The P returns to the altar and faces the girl now standing between her Mother & the Crone.

P. What is the name of this girl who seeks the presence of the Great Mother Goddess?

M. I bring (name) who is no longer a child. She has experienced the flow of moon blood, and blossomed into a young woman.

P. Great Mother Goddess, who controls and flows with moon blood, I present You with (girls name). She, who has passed beyond the gates of childhood, and will now take her place in the second stage of womanhood. Bless her Great Goddess, and guide her through this joyful transition.

C. Great Mother Goddess, who knows the secrets and wisdom of moon blood, and when it should be released, I present You with this brand new woman. Please bless and watch over her as she learns the responsibility, and self control required at this second, and new stage of her womanhood.

P. We all welcome you (name) as the daughter of the Goddess, and into the never ending cycle of all women.

G. I stand before you Great Goddess and fellow women, in this blessed circle with great pride and joy. I am made in the Mother's image and rejoice in that. I now hold the powers of a woman in my body, and take great  pride in that.

M. Every woman is engulfed in the love of the Goddess. She values us all and gives us the gifts of physical love and pleasure. We must always be wise in using these gifts, and never give away our freedom or our pride at any time.

C. The moon blood creates children when a woman joins with a man. Choose the father of your children with great care and wisdom. Make sure this decision will not cause you, or your child with regret.

The Mother touches the moon calendar on the altar and says:

Ancient women magick teaches us that all the faces of the Goddess are revealed by the waxing and waning faces of the moon. The rhythms of your body, the coming and going of the moon blood, follow the moon and it's phases. Watch and learn this mystery. The flowing of the moon blood is a mystery shared only by women. It is the woman's gift from the Great Mother Goddess.

The Crone touches the candle on the altar and says:

As you kindle the flame of this sacred candle, may your spirit kindle to the mysteries of the Great Mother  Goddess. We welcome you into the cycle of womanhood.

The girl lights the candle on the altar and says:

Thank you for this gift Great Mother Goddess. May my life as a woman be as bright as the flame of this sacred candle.

The Mother hands the calendar to the G. and says:

This calendar, with it's waxing and waning moon information is now yours to use, as you keep track of the flow of your moon blood. When the calendar has finished it's use, may you keep it and remember this special occasion in your journey into womanhood.

Everyone says "Blessed Be!"

The ritual is now complete. The P. opens the circle. The sacred candle is also saved as a keep sake for the G. Those who have participated in this ritual should now have some sort of celebration befitting this rite.
