The Family History of William Heather and Sarah Morley
from England to Upper Canada:
the Heather, Bramhall, Morley and Hall Families
by Nancy H. Conn, M.B.A.
(530 pages, maps, 400 images)
Book available from

This book
outlines the history of four families who immigrated to Upper Canada from
England between 1830 and 1850. William Heather’s parents originated in Surrey
and the West Riding of Yorkshire, while Sarah Morley’s family came from
Northamptonshire, and West Sussex in the south of England.
The
ancestral families of William and Sarah are revealed back to the 1600s. Sarah’s
grandfather arrived in Canada as part of the Petworth Emigration Project,
organized by Reverend Thomas Sockett of Petworth, Sussex. William’s grandfather
settled in ‘muddy York’ where he established himself as a bricklayer, then
innkeeper.
Sources are documented from English County Record offices, parish registers, the
Family History Library, and the Ontario Archives: land and census records,
deeds, tax assessments, wills, newspaper obituaries, cemetery transcriptions and
birth, marriage and death registers.
Local history of relevant shires and parishes in England is included, as well as
townships in the Ontario counties of Waterloo, Wellington and Perth. Contains
photographs, family stories and letters from the children of William and Sarah,
in particular, correspondence sent from the trenches of the First World War.
Over 1,300 names are indexed, over 2,300 references footnoted.
