Sour Landslide is a power pop trio from Toronto, Canada. They wear their influences (everything from The Replacements and Elvis Costello to Hüsker Dü and Flop) on their sleeve, yet stay true to their own distinctive sound and character. The speedy pop mayhem of their live shows led one critic to sum up the SL experience nicely in a few words: "Squeeze on crack."
Their debut CD, Friends Of Dracula, was a follow-up to their independent cassette Shine. Both recordings received airplay on CFNY, Niagara Falls' "The Planet" and campus stations across the country. In 1994, Sour Landslide opened for The Lowest Of The Low on their North American tour. They went on to appear at MusicWest, Canadian Music Week, North By Northeast, and Edgefest. Their highly-touted live shows have led them to be personally selected to play with such artists as Art Bergmann, Thrush Hermit, The Refreshments, Universal Honey, Weeping Tile, Suckerpunch, and Cadillac Tramps.
Material from their new CD, They Promised Us Jobs, made a favourable impression even before the release of the album itself. In 1996, "Guns Of Navarone" was selected as the lead-off track on Impact Magazine's new music sampler, and "Human Rain Delay" appeared on CFNY's New Rock Search.
Since its release in June 1997, They Promised Us Jobs has received glowing reviews in magazines such as Chart and The Record. The album and the first single, "Human Rain Delay", have received significant airplay on campus and commercial radio across Canada, already appearing in Chart's weekly top 50, while slowly but surely capturing rotation at rock radio after numerous "feature" spins. The album also made several "Top 10 of 1997" lists, including those at Exclaim, The Vancouver Sun, The Record, and CBC Radio 2, where Manfred Sittmann picked it as the Number 1 Album of the Year. The band capped off the year with a national TV appearance on Global Television's lunch-hour showcase, First Up.
Armed with an even bigger and better sound than before, a deal with Shake The Record Label, and a new hard-hitting album, Sour Landslide seem poised to cause quite a stir.
