Welcome to the first "Coaches Corner". First I would like to introduce myself, my name is Gordon Fong. I have been fencing for almost ten years. I first got interested in fencing when I saw the movie "The Princess Bride". Since I studied Kung Fu for over 14 years. Coaching experience includes 7 of the 14 years as Instructor of Kung Fu. I had a passion for the Martial Arts. I also studied boxing, Tae Kwon Do, Judo and Tai Chi. I am also still active as Trainer/Instructor of Ballroom Dance.
Fencing was a step into another realm of Martial Arts. One that was off the 'beaten path'. Fencing provides the practitioner with discipline, co-ordination, both aerobic and an-aerobic fitness and like all Martial Arts combines the benefits of uniting body and mind.
Maestro Walter Stalmack was our Head Coach until he passed early 2003. Please visit our tribute to Walter on our website. This would be my second season as Coach of the Scarborough Fencing Club. I am affiliated with NCCP (Level One) and CBET (Aide Moniteur).
Fencing is a skill that requires time, determination, persistence and most important, a Fencing Coach. To get started in fencing, join a local Club, which will provide the necessary coaching, training and fencing. Competition is also available for those inclined.
The Scarborough Fencing Club has recently upgraded our website. The "Coaches Corner" is a new venture both for me and for the Scarborough Fencing Club. This first entry of the "Coaches Corner" will act as an introduction and invitation for suggestions and comments.
If you have a subject that you would like covered or comments, please e-mail me at gord@scarboroughfencing.on.ca.
