HARRY LAUDER'S WALKING STICK
aka:Corylus avellana ‘Contorta’, "Corkscrew hazel"While visiting the Humber Arboretum some time ago I came across a shrub that appeared to me to be on its last legs. From a distance all I could see was a shrub covered with badly wilted leaves. On closer examination I found its branches to be extremely tortuous and concluded that the plant had been badly neglected (in an arboretum?) and didn't have much time left!
At that point I checked out the name tag which told me the plant was Corylus avellana ‘Contorta’ or, very appropriately, Harry Lauder's Walking stick!
