If you've already
read my rant about menstruation, or as us Witches
call it "moon time", you already know how I feel about this subject. If
you haven't, I suggest you do so now. This essay is not for the
squeamish. It is a frank essay about the powers of moon blood, how to collect,
and use it for magickal purposes. If you have a problem with any of that,
then please go back to the main index and read
something else. Don't bother emailing me some stupid letter about how it
offends you. You had your chance to leave.
Next to the power of your mind, moon blood is the most powerful tool a female Witch has. It has been used since ancient times for various fertility rituals and love spells. Yet I have over 50 books in my magickal library, and not one of them even mentions using moon blood. However, I've read at least 7 books that say the most powerful thing you can add to boost your magickal workings is Dragons Blood. Which, oddly enough is an herb. And I think it's a pile of crap.
I bought some once, and was absolutely shocked at how expensive it was, and how little you get for your money. The first time I got it, I asked for 3 dollars worth. That amounted to less than a teaspoon! And to be honest, I think that's one of the reasons they say it adds so much power to your spells. I used it 3 times (because that's as far as I could stretch the tiny bit out), and I noticed no difference WHATSOEVER in the power of my spells. I personally think it's a marketing ploy just to get you to spend your hard earned cash on it. Let's face it, if you read 7 books that all said the same herb adds power to your spells...you'd probably believe it. I fell for it...once.
But as I continue to say all over this web site, the biggest tool you need to use when it comes to anything you read about Witchcraft or Paganism, it's common sense. If you truly believe a certain herb will add power to your spell, it will. Why? Because you truly believe it will. As I've said on my herbal pages, rosemary can substitute for any herb in a pinch. I learned that so long ago I can't remember if it was my step father or his High Priest, and never questioned it in my mind once. I've done entire varieties of spells using nothing but rosemary, and it works like a charm every time. Why? Because I've believed it for so long, and never seen it NOT work every time. Like I said, your mind is the most powerful tool you have. But moon blood is the most powerful physical tool a woman has. Just as semen is the most powerful physical tool a male has.
Blood was, and in some cultures, still is used as the single most important tool of magick, in the form of sacrificing the blood of an animal, as is done in Voodoo rituals. Blood is what courses through your veins providing your body with the nourishment it needs to keep you alive. Even the blood of another person can save your life. Think about that for a moment. Don't just quickly read what I'm about to say. Read it, stop, and really think about it for a while.
If you are dying a strangers blood, put in your body can save your life!
Read it again and really think about the power of that statement.
That is absolutely amazing, yet we take it for granted so easily. But that's what I call power! When an egg is released from your ovaries, moon blood is sent their to nourish it ,so it can grow and become a human life! Can you think of anything more powerful than that? I can't. If you can, let me know. And you have the power to decide whether you will use it to bring a life into this world, and most woman throw it in the garbage, or flush it down the toilet! I say KEEP EVERY DROP OF IT!! And worship yourself during your moon time. The power of this precious fluid is so immense, it's hard for me to even properly delineate it. Are you starting to get the picture? Are you starting to think about your moon time as the miracle it is? Something precious and powerful, instead of something that makes you want to crawl under a rock until it's over? You darn well should!!
Menstruation is not some gross, ugly thing we should think of as a nuisance to have. It's a power only we woman share. And you are most powerful during your moon time. Menstruation isn't some shameful, dirty thing we should try to hide, and pretend isn't happening to us. It's a miracle that can produce life! Think of what it can do if that power is used in a magickal sense, and it boggles the mind. If you think you've had a good success rate doing magick without using moon blood, you will be shocked at how powerful they are when you do use it!
I'll give you an example. I started learning about magick when I was 12. Just over 30 years ago. To make a long story short, I only had a mentor for a very short amount of time, then nothing, no books, no internet. So me and my best friend decided to do a spell to get this guy I was dating to call me. We were just stupid kids at the time. But as in proper magick, it never ocurred to us that it wouldn't work. We sat on the floor with in the light of a red candle, and I said "I want Terry to call me." I pricked my finger and dropped a few drops of blood on the paper he gave me his phone number on, so did my friend. Before we even had a chance to stand up the phone started to ring. We both looked at each other with expressions of total amazement. I picked up the phone and said "Is this Terry?". It was, and he had NO idea how I could have possibly known that. The expression on my best friends face was priceless.
Then we did the same spell again some time later, but after 15 minutes we thought we failed. Like many who know basically nothing, we thought magick happened instantly, so we went out and sat on the back stairs. "Well THAT didn't work." I said sarcastically. Then, the phone rang. "Is this Terry?" I said again. "HOW DO YOU DO THAT?" he shouted in amazement. The power of those spells done by 2 clue less, and very stupid teenagers, shows you just how effective even regular blood magick is. It actually scared my friend so much he said we had to stop doing magick, and go to church!! I didn't go to church with him, but I did smarten up and realize that I shouldn't use magick in that way. And by "that way" I mean to manipulate someone, even if it was as harmless as trying to get some a date to call me.
I realized it had great power that should'nt be used for such petty reasons, and felt truly guilty for quite some time after that...and for good reason. As I say on my page about spells, it's absolutely imperative that you have no doubts whatsoever in the power of your spell or your spell is doomed. I also say that no Witch should perform magick to try to manipulate another person...ever, which is exactly what we did. Thank the Powers That Be we weren't more stupid, or power hungry. Despite the fact that we didn't really know what we were doing, the fact that we never had the slightest doubt is what produced the result, and I'm convinced that the addition of blood, was what made the results happen so quickly.
These days, we Witches and Pagans don't sacrifice animals or virgins, but we do use blood on occasion in the form of adding a few drops of our own using a pin to prick our finger. And while in my experience, doing so always seems to speed up the process at which a spell comes to bare, even that blood dose not carry the power of moon blood. The blood that is filled with nourishment intended to give life to an egg. I'm fairly sure that at this point I've succeeded in showing you why blood, especially moon blood is so extremely powerful. If not, you need to seriously sit back, and try and find anything I've said that should make you feel anything but it's enormous power.
Collection of Moon Blood
This part is definitely not for the squeamish, so if you still think you moon time is something gross, this will gross you out even more, so if that's the case, I'm giving you one more opportunity to go to the main index and read something else. You've been warned.
Moon blood is easily collected if you use tampons. All you do is simply squeeze the precious fluid into a jar, and in no time you will have as much moon blood as you could possibly need. And if you are getting near the age when being a Crone (one who no longer menstruates), is coming near, I suggest you stock up on it while you have the chance. Moon blood is obviously not used for blood transfusions, so it never expires, or looses it's power. No matter how long you have it. But it should be stored in the fridge. If you can't store it in the fridge, no problem, just use it dried, in the way I'm about to describe in the next paragraph. I don't know why, but for some reason I add a teaspoon of rubbing alcohol to every jar. If you get the feeling that you should add something to yours, just do it, don't bother going crazy trying to figure out why you got the urge to do so. The Powers That Be have obviously given you a message...so follow it.
I haven't used a pad in over 25 years, so I don't have a clue what using them is like these days. I only know that you won't be able to squeeze the blood out of it. So I suggest that you cut away the excess pad and plastic under part, and store the blood in dried form in a special 'moon box'. Decorate it and make it as beautiful as you can. Your precious cargo deserves no less.
Using Moon Blood
While moon blood is obviously a great ingredient for fertility spells, it can be used to boost the power of any spell for the obvious reasons I've gone at length to clarify. Particularly love, romance, sex & lust spells. But it is just as effective in any spell I've ever used it for. For example; clearing out negativity, breaking hexes, getting a job, money spells, beauty spells, sex spells, healing...anything. Remember this blood came directly out of your body. You created it, and it is a part of you. Every single drop is radiating with power.
It can be used to mix with herbs for any variety of uses be it incense, sachets, or added by drops into a spell potion, or dropped on magickal, and divination tools to make them more a part of you. You can put a drop on magickal jewelry or dark clothing for romance and sex purposes, you could use it to soak a piece of paper, let it dry and, write something on it for a spell that you plan on using it to burn, or write it on a pad piece and burn it, put a few drops in your purse, or nap sack either wet, or dry pad piece to prevent theft, in your wallet to attract money, under your pillow to contact your spirit guide in dreams, or under your mat to heighten your meditation, or under your pillow to help you fall asleep, or to help you dream and remember them in more detail, put some under your door mat for protection, and to attract loving people, to prevent negativity from entering your home, in corners of your bed room to attract love, or under the mattress to increase sexual pleasure, in your pocket to help attract a mate, in a special bath before you do a special spell or ritual. Just add a few drops to the water, or put a dried piece in the tub while the water is running to release it, and take out the left over material before you get in.
You can put wet or bury dried blood in your garden to help it flourish. I noticed a difference between the side of the garden I performed a blood ritual on, and the side where I didn't. The flower buds grew much larger. Dried it can be cut into small pieces of material, and used basically the same way. Burned in spell potions, put into poppets, sachets, and also burned in incense and spells. You may also wish to put a few drops on a piece of toilet paper, let it dry, and put it under your mattress for love, lust, fertility, and sex purposes. In wet form it also has the element of water, and dried, the element of fire. So you should also incorporate these elements into whatever spell, or ritual you wish to use your moon blood in to give it even more power! As you can see, the uses for this precious fluid are VERY powerful, and can be used in any spell or ritual to give it a super boost of strength, and as I hope I've demonstrated, it's uses are only limited by your imagination. Moon blood can be charged to do anything your heart desires, and I notice that it really speeds up the amount of time it takes for a spell to tale effect.
I discovered moon magick on my own, as I've never heard about it ,or seen it in a book. If you have, I'd love it if you'd email me the name of it, and the author. But what I hope these essays of about moon magick do, is have the same effect on you that it had on me when I first started collecting and using it. To see your moon time as something to look forward to, as a way to get more of the precious fluid, and not something unpleasant, ugly, or a time to feel dirty or ashamed. You should feel the power of this time radiating through your whole body like I do every month I'm blessed with it. You are a woman...bask in the glory of your moon time. And remember, if you suffer any discomfort during your moon time, all you have to do is respect your body like every Witch should, by getting 20 minutes of cardiovascular exercise 3 times a week. Once you're in shape, kiss all that discomfort good bye forever!
Blessed
be to you on your moon time
May
you feel the power
and
let it shine
Use
your gifts as I shared mine
And
see it's power every time
Blessed
be to you on your moon time
The
female power of all woman kind!
Crimson Blessings...Celeste Moondancer
