Markham, Ont. – January 31, 2017 – Pathway communications has completed the HIPAA & PIPEDA compliance audit for its Data Centre, Private Cloud infrastructure and processes.  As of February 1st all client data hosted within Pathway’s Markham Data Centre including Cloud solutions, are fully compliant with the requirements specified in HIPAA and PIPEDA for handling and storage of data. Pathway’s compliance has been audited by a trusted third party and done in conjunction with our recent PCI certification.

The HIPAA and PIPEDA compliance seal ensures your data resides in a highly regulated facility and adheres to the strict legal requirements of both acts. This means your data, regardless if you operate within the healthcare space, is secured in a Data Centre that follows the strictest standards for data handling.

About HIPAA

HIPAA stands for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and is a United States federal law passed in 1996 to lead the healthcare industry towards incremental reform. HIPAA’s intent is to reform the healthcare industry by improving the privacy and security of patients’ health information also known as Protected Health Information (PHI).

About PIPEDA

In Canada data privacy is governed by a similar law called the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).  While the requirements of PIPEDA is less constricting than HIPAA, it is also much more expansive.  PIPEDA applies broadly to any personal information (PI) related to Canadian citizens.  In summary of PIPEDA, Canadians are empowered not just with whom has access to their data, but also requires explicit consent when collecting personal information.
